I agree completely. American education is going downhill, and many people are making remarks about what the government needs to do. I agree with that as well. But what I am more concerned with is that no one is addressing this to us, the students whose educations are being messed with as though they are a middle-school science project. "If we don't get it right this time, we can always try again next year." Sure, YOU can, but WE can't. We have to go out into the world with the education we've been given. So my question is not what reforms the governments and the school systems can make, but what the students need to know and change to get the most out of our education.

Bob Compton Comments:

America simply needs to adopt the Indian, Chinese, Singaporean or Finnish national curriculum. Our kids can handle it. Our teachers just can't teach it. Too bad...

You're comparing American students to rats that jump off a cliff and drown in a grimy lake? You've got to be kidding me.

METAPHOR - Metaphors are comparisons that show how two things that are not alike in most ways are similar in one important way. Metaphors are a way to illustrate a point in a powerful way.

The animal in the film is a lemming - it is a rodent, but not a rat.

Steve Jobs and Apple computer used a similar metaphor in 1985 in the launch of a Macintosh computer.
