Man those are some depressing statistics!


Wow, 16% is really terrible. Any chance that the ACT results shouldn't be generalized to the entire population? I've heard that the ACT tends to have worse results because only lower performing kids are encouraged to take it in the first place. Any truth to that?
I've tended to cite the 30% to 40% of incoming college freshman needing remediation. Even as bad as most US public schools are, 16% seems low. But I don't know a thing about Michigan.
